Health and Safety in class

When in class, there are certain rules you have to follow in order for yourself and other people in the studio to stay safe and not cause any accidents.

You can come across a hazard which is something that is likely to cause a harm or a risk and you can also have a risk which is something that may happen.

Cross contamination is something that would be considered  a risk as this can harm your client/model/partner. You should always make sure that all your makeup brushes are cleaned after every client as this then won't cause a contamination. You should also not use your makeup brushes to dip directly into cream or liquid products as this could also cause a contamination. For products such as cream highlighters or eyeshadows, you should use a disposable spatula and scrape product onto the back of your hand or a mixing palette. For mascara, you should always use a disposable mascara wand and never double dip, use a different wand if you need more product. For products such as lipsticks, you can use a retractable lipstick brush and then wash it after use or use a disposable one.

You should also make sure your makeup area is tidy, always place a piece of roll down first before placing your products onto a surface. Make sure your model is covered with a black apron to prevent any makeup falling onto their clothing. Always keep your hair tied back to keep it from dipping in to any products. You should always keep any bags hidden away so you or anyone else doesn't trip over it and hang any coats up and away from your makeup area. Before placing any product on to your model's face, always make sure your hands are washed and clean and keep your nails at a short, natural length. The last thing to remember is to always dispose of any used disposables that you have used during the makeup application, tidy your makeup away, clean your makeup brushes and wash your area down including the mirror and turn the mirror lights off.
